    1. Type 201 Stainless Steel is an austenitic chromium-nickel-manganese stainless steel which was developed to conserve nickel. Type 201 is a lower cost alternative to conventional Cr-Ni stainless steels such as 301 and 304. Nickel is replaced by additions of manganese and nitrogen. It is non-hardenable by thermal treatment, but may be cold worked to high tensile strengths.

    2. 301 stainless steel 201 Properties and Composition of Type 201 Stainless Steel

201 stainless steel is an alloy that contains half the nickel and increased manganese and nitrogen of more popular steels. While it is less expensive than some other alloys (because of its low nickel content), it is not as easy to work or form.

      • Which One Is Better?
      • While both 301 and 304 stainless steel use iron for their main ingredient, the two alloys have a couple of key differences in their chemical composition, which you can see in the table below (numbers indicate percentage of material by weight):As you can see in the above table, many of the compounds in the two steel alloys are capped at the same values. However, grade 304 stainless steel gets more chromium and nickel than grade 301 does. This tends to make grade 304 stainless more expensive th...

      • Stainless steel grade 301 is usually supplied in the form of strips and wires, with a tensile strength of up to 1800 Mpa, to produce tempers ranging from 1/16 Hard to Full Hard. By subjecting grade 301 to controlled analysis it is capable of retaining sufficient ductility even in ½ hard conditions. This form of grade 301 may be used in aircraft, rail car components and architectural structures. Tempers of this grade, ranging from ¾ to full hard, may be used in applications requiring high wear...
